St. Baldrick's

GIVING BACK TO THE COMMUNITY

Helen Fitzgerald's and the Syberg Family Restaurants are host to many charity fund raiser's throughout every year.

The largest of these annual events "St. Baldrick's", is now in it’s 5th year and has become one of the world’s largest fundraisers for childhood cancer research, having raised over $846,000.00 to date. Thanks to the community for helping us give these kids hope, support, and a fighting chance.

Helen Fitzgerald, was the matriarch of the Syberg restaurant clan until her passing in the 80’s. Born in 1907 (or so the family thinks, her birth records thought to be destroyed in a fire in Memphis, Tennessee).

Helen was a strong woman in the "Rosie the Riveter" mold. Working in a small-arms plant when her husband fell ill, she later went on to become the head hostess at the Missouri Athletic Club.

Helen Fitzgerald

During her 22 years of service at the exclusive downtown establishment, Helen was a privileged insider to the behind-the-scene power brokering that defined St. Louis during the 50's and 60's.

Designated as one of the finest Irish hostesses in all the land by the ISL (International Society of Leprechauns), her reputation as a hostess without peer was firmly established.

Helen was loved by all and became a household name during this period. She was also an expert baker whose recipes are coveted by, among others, the Pillsbury Company.

Helen Fitzgerald's Bar & Grill was opened as a tribute this matriarch.

COME IN AND HAVE A DRINK TO HONOR HELEN AND SAY HI TO THE SYBERG FAMILY.

Richard & Sally Syberg

Brett was encouraged by his parents Richard & Sally Syberg who opened Syberg’s Catering 1972. Within a few years their flagship restaurant on Gravois, had made their Famous Wings and hand-cut Shark Chunks a trademark in St. Louis. The tradition expanded over the years, as their kids began to carve their niches opening additional locations throughout the area.

Richard & Sally still help out in the kid's locations during the week and Richard still personally makes all the homemade soups served at Helen's from scratch.
